Next Step is a specialist government health service that provides the community with access to information, treatment, specialist services and referral for people presenting with complex problems related to their use of alcohol and other drugs.

The following is a list of services offered by Next Step Specialist Drug & Alcohol Services:
- Alcohol & Drug Information Service (ADIS): ADIS is a confidential, 24-hour, 7-day a week telephone counselling, information, referral and consultancy service.

- Parent Drug Information Service (PDIS): The Parent Drug Information Service is a 24 hour, 7-days a week service providing counselling, information and referral.

- Illicit Drug Treatment Services: Next Step provides access to specialist General Practitioners (GPs) throughout WA who are able to assess and provide methadone treatment to people experiencing problems with their use of opiates. Methadone has been demonstrated over time to offer the best opportunity for you to reduce your use of illicit opiates and to help you return to a more normal lifestyle with improved health and social stability. To discuss the most appropriate treatment options for the reduction and management of your heroin use, call the Methadone Assessment Line for a confidential assessment and referral.

- Specialist Treatment Services: Next Step provides access to a range of residential and non-residential specialist clinical services that operate from a central treatment facility in East Perth. Access to these services can be achieved by self-referral. Initial appointments can be arranged by contacting the Assessment Line on: (08) 9219 1919 Monday to Friday between 8.00am to 5.00pm. (Emergencies and after-hours services are only available on a specialist medical referral) Residential Withdrawal may be appropriate for clients whose medical and/or personal circumstances indicate that a residential stay is not necessary or unsuitable. Outpatient clients make regular visits to the service for medical support and counselling. In certain circumstances, if you have the support of a family member or concerned other, home withdrawal may be considered a viable option.

- Clinical Education and Training: This service provides alcohol and other drug education and training for people working or studying in the health and welfare field.

- Opiate Overdose Prevention Strategy (OOPS): The objective of this project is to provide services to opiate users and others to reduce the risks of heroin related overdose.

- Library Services: The library has books, journals, reports, Acts of Parliament, videos, pamphlets and subject files on all aspects of alcohol and other drug related issues. Members of the public, tertiary students and staff from other government agencies may use the library for reference purposes.

COMMUNITY DRUG SERVICES TEAMS
The community drug services teams began operations in early 1998 and replaced services previously provided by the W.A. Alcohol and Drug Authority. The teams offer a variety of services including:
- general alcohol and drug outpatient counselling. These services are free.
- some teams offer group work. Enquires may be made with the individual team.
- support to other health and welfare providers to manage alcohol and other drug problems
- support to the local community to develop strategies and programmes to help prevent alcohol and drug problems.

A house which provides residential facilities and support for people with alcohol-related problems as well as support services to their families. Nine beds are available at a fee of $50 for unemployed and $60 per week for employed people. Residents buy and cook their own food and share in household tasks. Two AA meetings must be attended per week as a condition of residence. Referrals can be made 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

An emergency accommodation referral service for single men over the age of 25 years. Emergency accommodation is provided for families only.
