Relationships in Isolated Regions
Living and working in the Goldfields has many benefits. It's a great quality of life for families, young people, and the elderly. Some people working in remote operations, however, may work shifts which require them to be away from family and support services for extended periods of time. Even when families are together in remote areas, the isolation from support services may still impact on relationships.
To make matters work, when help is not available, relationship situations often worsen as people will resign themselves to put up with a bad situation because of the difficulties with getting help. Working away from home can sometimes exacerbate relationship problems.
Having relationship support when there are difficulties is a vital step in improving our quality of life. Relationships Australia provides a diverse range of services including counselling for individuals, couples and families. Relationships Australia has some online resources available at: http://www.relationships.com.au/advice/rel_advice.asp. Alternatively you could phone Relationships Australia on 1300 364 277 to be connected to your nearest office.
You may also wish to talk to your doctor, or find a suitable counsellor in your area. Try our database or call Health Direct 1800 222 022 to find a local provider. One-on-one counselling is often also available and successful over the telephone.
