Preventative health is taking measures to maintain a healthy, happy and meaningful life. Your best outcomes require staying active, eating food that will provide maximum energy, maintaining a positive thought process and staying socially connected to friends and family.

Simply walking daily for 15 minutes with 3 spurts of 20 seconds will keep the body fit and the blood circulating to all extremities. For better health reduce salt, sugar and fat intake. Thinking positive thoughts will keep negative actions at bay, maintaining friendships and family connections will provide you with social wellbeing, this may be as simple as phoning/texting on a regular basis.

TODAY’S PHYSICAL CHALLENGE: Take a 15 minute walk during your lunch break, before or after work. During this walk introduce 3 x 20 second spurts, this will fire up the flight/fight syndrome and eat belly fat.

TODAY’S MIND CHALLENGE: Maintaining a positive thought process can be a challenge, life is random and a roller coaster at times. We are a product of our thoughts, imagine the difference of repeating a positive mantra on a daily basis. From today, breathe in HAPPY breathe out CALM. On your internal screen put pictures to the words to make the routine stronger.

TODAY’S SOCIAL CHALLENGE: Take your mother or father (or both) out for a coffee and amongst other things, talk about health problems that run in the family such as heart disease, diabetes or any genetic diseases. This knowledge is gold if you want to live a long life. It is worth mentioning any family diseases to your G.P. on the next visit so the information can be added to your file.

TODAY’S FOOD CHALLENGE: Have a meat free day. Most men have a diet too meat heavy. So load up on veggies, fruit, whole grains and pulses. Give your body a big vitamin and mineral boost.
